German anti-piracy firm DigiRights Solutions has published a presentation outlining the money it can make for music rights-holders by pursuing pirates. The company identifies file-sharers of specific tracks and sends them requests for damages of €450 per offence. DRS then keeps 80% of that for “admin”, but gives €90 to the rights-holder. It suggests it can track and pursue 5,000 file-sharers per month per song - and claims 25% of people contacted will pay the fine - meaning one song can make a label €112,500 a month in this way.
