The patterns could be more granular, looking at things like shot composition and length, and a “pattern” of that director could be compiled through the analysis of multiple films. This would be good to do to see just how formulaic films can be and specifically, how formulaic directors are. This technique could also be compiled with date ranges of certain stylistic treatments that were en vogue in their respective eras.
